Acrylotex 1.0 MATERIAL DESCRIPTION AcrylotexO 66595 is an attractive and very durable 100% acrylic coating designed for use on asphalt and concrete surfaces. AcrylotexO provides a medium texture, non-skid surface that is well suited for medium to high use traffic areas. AcrylotexO is intended to be tinted with DecoColor to provide a variety of attractive surface finishes.
2.0 INTENDED USE AcrylotexO can be used for pedestrian walkways, public malls, median strips, plazas, medium traffic pavements, garage floors, and park and recreation projects.
3.0 PHYSICAL PROPERTIES
Note: Low temperatures & high humidity will increase drying time drastically. Maximum surface temperature = 140° F.
4.0 Surface Preparation 4.1 Base Construction Base construction should provide a stable, compacted and frost free foundation for the asphalt or concrete surface. Asphalt surfaces shall be well-compacted and meet local highway department specifications for 3/8 inch aggregate mixes. Portland Cement Concrete surfaces shall have appropriate reinforcement for the climate, a medium broom finish, and be free of curing compounds. Recreational surfaces must meet or exceed the American Sports Builders Association (ASBA) applicable Guidelines. Upgrading and recoating previously colored surfaces requires the surface and base construction to be in sound condition and in compliance with the applicable ASBA Guidelines.
4.2 Substrate Cure Requirements New hot-mix asphalt surfaces must be allowed 14 days minimum cure time prior to application. For new Portland cement concrete surfaces, a minimum of 28 days cure time is required.
4.3 Surface Condition The surface on which AcrylotexO is to be applied must be clean, smooth, free of dirt, loose or flaking paint, oily materials or chemical residues, vegetation of any sort and any other debris or foreign matter that may prevent the proper product adhesion. Thoroughly rout existing cracks of dirt, debris and loose impediments. Cracks should be blown clean with an air compressor. Consult the data sheet 64061 Deco Crack Filler for application information.
5.0 MIXING INSTRUCTIONS The following mixes have been found to be satisfactory for average surface conditions:
One gallon equals approximately 22 pounds dry Portland cement. Additional Portland cement will provide further hardness and faster drying. Portland Cement is optional on asphalt, but it will improve wear resistance. White Portland Cement is preferred. The diluted material shall be homogeneous. Segregation before or during application will not be permitted. A mechanical drill mixer is recommended and mixture should be stirred until homogeneous. Periodic mixing should take place as job progresses to ensure consistent application.
6.0 GUIDE TO APPLICATION 6.1 System Recommendations Two (2) applications have proven to give excellent performance results.
6.2 Application AcrylotexO filler coats shall be applied by rubber bladed squeegee on the clean, dry surface. The finish surface shall have a uniform appearance and be free from ridges and tool marks.
6.3 Drying and Curing Time Before application, each coat must be allowed to fully cure. Under optimum installation conditions, a maximum of two coats per day can be installed. Completed projects should be allowed to fully cure for at least 24 hours.
7.0 COVERAGE The undiluted coverage rate is approximately 0.10 gallons per square yard, per application depending on surface texture and porosity.
8.0 CLEAN-UP All equipment can be cleaned with water if clean up occurs immediately after application.
9.0 LIMITATIONS 9.1 Surface Limitations AcrylotexO is limited to application on hot-mix asphalt and Portland cement concrete surfaces. Deco Surfacing Systems does not recommend, nor authorize the application of AcrylotexO on any other surfaces without prior approval from your Deco Area Manager.
9.2 Weather Limitations No part of the construction involving Deco Surfacing Systems should be conducted during rainfall, or when rain is imminent. The air temperature must be at least 60ºF and rising. Do not apply when surface temperature is above 140ºF.
9.3 Product Limitations The AcrylotexO system will not prevent surface or structural cracks from recurring. Cracks will reappear.
9.4 Do Not Over Dilute Over dilution will cause streaking, foaming, adhesion failure, sand fall-out and poor overall durability of the coating.
9.5 Indoor Application Drying Drying times are retarded by high humidity, cool temperatures or lack of air movement. This is particularly important to note when installing indoors, where all three factors are often very pronounced.
9.6 Keep From Freezing AcrylotexO is a water-based acrylic system and it must be kept from freezing during storage or in transit. If you receive product you suspect may have been exposed to freezing temperatures, consult your Deco Area Manager for proper handing instructions.
